Data Education & Instruction

  • Taught library instruction at Old Dominion University in the sciences, in the information literacy core, and other classes as needed, both at the graduate and undergraduate level.
  • Developed public workshops on special topics in information use and data analysis, especially on academic data/research software:
    • Zotero (Reference Management)
    • OpenRefine (Data Scrubbing)
    • R/RStudio (Statistical Analysis)
  • Consulted with faculty and graduate students on Data Management best practices, research data life cycles, and data management planning
  • Developed and led library-wide training curriculum on Sharepoint 2010
  • Facilitated Safe Space trainings for faculty, staff, and students across campus
  • Guest lectured in courses at the undergraduate and graduate level, at Franklin Pierce University and Syracuse University's School of Information Studies.

  • Guest-lectured in ongoing community folk music class, teaching basic music theory, vocal harmony, and fundamental ensemble playing to multi-generational learners.
  • Tutored courses in music history and theory at Franklin Pierce University, including History of Western Music I & II, Women in Music, Theory of Music I, II, III, & IV, Orchestration, and Music in Our World (a general education course for non-majors).
  • Developed and led training program for undergraduate orientation leaders, including units on conflict resolution and time management.

Outreach

  • Coordinate with librarians and institutions throughout Virginia to plan and produce the Virginia Data Management Boot Camp. 2016: Co-convener. 2015: Old Dominion University site coordinator.
  • Serve as library liaison to the departments of Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics & Statistics, and Ocean, Earth, & Atmospheric Sciences. Duties include:
    • Collection development/monograph selection
    • Instruction for undergraduate and graduate classes in these fields
    • Faculty outreach and research assistance
    • Occasionally embed into classes, offering library assistance.
  • Work with university-wide Safe Space Committee to reduce homophobia, transphobia and heterosexism in the Old Dominion University community.

Information Analysis, Design & Presentation

  • Skilled with standard, academic, data science, and design computer software, including Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Illustrator, InkScape, R, and LibGuides.
  • Familiar with programming concepts, some comfort with Python, JavaScript, and HTML/CSS.
  • Coursework and projects in information design, including information architecture, information & data visualization, and database design and architecture.
  • Conference presentations at the local, regional, and national levels, including Pecha Kucha, lightning talks, conversation starters, panels, and lectures. Topics ranged from "Hacking" library science education to internship theory and more.

Management/Administration

  • Project management experience in the library, non-profit, and arts sectors.
  • As Program Assistant at Syracuse University, occasionally served as meeting chair in absence of program director.
  • Independently managed/ran The Librarium, an independent bookstore, for periods extending up to six weeks while owner was traveling.
  • Hired, trained, and supervised interns for arts nonprofit (Monadnock Music) and orientation "Peer Leaders" for small university (Franklin Pierce).
